Oxygen is carried in our blood by a protein called hemoglobin, which is inside red blood cells. It’s like a taxi service for oxygen. Hemoglobin picks up oxygen when we breathe in and drops it off to our body’s cells that need it.
Carbon dioxide, on the other hand, is produced when our cells use oxygen. It’s like a waste product. The blood carries carbon dioxide back to our lungs, and we breathe it out when we exhale.
So, oxygen hitches a ride with hemoglobin to our cells, and carbon dioxide catches a ride back to our lungs to be breathed out. Simple, right? 😊🫁💨
